As you may of seen from previous photos that I have a AEM gauge setup I did, consisting of Oil Temperature, OBDII (This allows me to pull information from the ECU, I normally have it on AFR) and Oil Pressure.
To my mind these are three of the most important information you need to see bar one!!! KNOCK KNOCK! ✊
Now don’t get me wrong these are all worry gauges more than anything, but it’s handy to see what’s going on and to hopefully catch it when something is wrong before the damage is done. 🤞
I’ve come across the PLEX μSDM-102 which just looks beautiful and would be a perfect replacement for the three gauges… Why may you ask…
Well… The joys of the μSDM-102 is it pulls all the information from your ECU through CAN BUS and the one bit of information I really wanted was KNOCK, but what’s the point in this?
On the μSDM-102 you can setup warnings against any value you pull through from the ECU or sensors. So high oil temperature, low oil pressure at certain RPM (This is pretty cool) and the one I wanted was Knock as yes the ECU will pull timing but it’s a good early warning sign that something isn’t right, bad batch of fuel etc.. It also has a on-board logger so you can really dig into what your car is up to. 😊
I’ve always preferred important information in one place like the Dash2 I did in my mk1. (Yes I should of gone that route but it’s a lot more involved compared to the mk1, plus they were not interested in helping me at all with the CAN BUS config) 😢
So far the support from Plex Tuning has been bloody brilliant. I’m just awaiting the CAN BUS config file for the NC with the information I supplied them.
You never know I may upgrade to one of their SDM-500 dash!
Once it’s all setup, I will do a video showing you how cool this little setup is. 😍
